Berlin, August 23, 2024 – On August 17, 2024, under the theme “Love Is Stronger,” the Straße des 17. Juni transformed into a pulsating hub of love and techno culture. The third annual “Rave The Planet Parade” drew hundreds of thousands of people, all coming together to make a bold statement for peace and the preservation of electronic music culture.
A Day Full of Beats and Messages
The parade kicked off at 2:00 PM with a warm welcome from techno icon and Love Parade co-founder Dr. Motte, followed by a greeting from Claudia Roth MdB, the Federal Minister for Culture & Media (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen), and a speech by Christian Goiny MdA, CDU Berlin’s spokesperson for budget and media policy, and since 2007, the longest-serving club policy spokesperson nationwide.
Next, 30 spectacularly decorated floats hit the streets, featuring around 300 artists and 36 speakers who shaped the day both musically and thematically. International acts like A.N.I., Alex Stein, Alle Farben, An On Bast, Bebetta, BYØRN, Farrago, Felix Kröcher, Gallya, IGDA, Isabelle Beaucamp, Juliet Sikora, Klanglos, Kos:mo, Krl Mx, LOVRA, Manoid, Paula Cazenave, Risa Taniguchi, Samantha Togni, Saytek LIVE, Simina Grigoriu, Sylvie Miles, Thomas Schumacher, Thrasher, Toby Izui, Tom Wax, Überkikz, Ukai Ndame, Westbam, and many others delivered an unforgettable soundtrack. Speeches from cultural senator Joe Chialo (via audio), Alex Krüger, Andrea Weidinger, Charlotte Lion, Chiderah Sunny, Christian Grade, Jacky-Oh Weinhaus, Kim Hansmann, Merlijn Poolmann, Prof. Dr. Matthias Pasdzierny, Sanne Kurz, Thomas Pieper, Yuli Ana, and others highlighted the crucial themes of peace and the protection of electronic music culture.
A Massive Turnout for Peace
Estimates suggest that at peak times, around 250,000 people were present, with an additional 40,000 to 50,000 in the Tiergarten park, bringing the total to approximately 300,000 attendees at any one time.
Throughout the day, about 380,000 people joined the parade – a clear sign of the growing impact of this techno demonstration.
Less Waste, More Impact
Despite the increase in attendees, waste generation was lower this year: just 107 cubic meters compared to last year’s 145 cubic meters (with around 300,000 participants in 2023). This drop highlights the effectiveness of our sustainability efforts and waste reduction appeals. These include our year-round environmental campaigns, the „Pfandinsel“ project (deposit islands) in partnership with PFANDGEBEN and Sozialheld:innen e.V., and the newly installed “Tiergarten Buddys”, who work to educate participants on being more respectful and sustainable in their use of parks and green spaces.
We extend our thanks to the 94 volunteers who helped with Clean-Ups after the parade to keep the Tiergarten park clean.
We also want to acknowledge the dedicated volunteers who supported the parade as safety stewards and awareness teams who ensured safety and smooth operations during the parade, as well as the photographers and videographers who captured the day. Our gratitude goes out to the Berlin Police, Berlin Fire Department, MOL Medical First Aid Service, Senate Administration, S-Bahn, BVG, Berlin City Cleaning (BSR), Mitte-Tiergarten District Office, and the Roads and Green Spaces Office for their outstanding cooperation, marked by mutual respect and teamwork.
Rave The Planet Parade 2025
After the parade is before the parade: On July 12, 2025, we’ll be back on the streets – louder and more determined than ever. The recognition of Berlin’s techno culture as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO is a huge win, but we’re not slowing down. Together, we’ll continue to fight for the protection and recognition of our culture.
